Two old tops, one new quilt for our bed!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here’s the tag from the top I purchased: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And equally inexpensive, a scrappy quilt top makes for the reverse of our “new” quilt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which side do you like better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why not two separate quilts?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First, more bang for the buck: Hired the amazing longarmer Carol Heisler-Lawson of Lorac Designs — https:\/\/carolheisler-lawson.com\/<\/a> — to bring her hand-guided artistry to a single project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second reason for making this quilt reversible? Versatility, natch, but in our new home, an apartment with limited storage space, I will have to fold and put away only one bulky bedcover when I switch to our lightweight summer quilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, there was more work to go into this project. Before the quilting, I covered small and large mildew stains on the scrappy top with vintage and repro fabric blocks and patchwork units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After quilting revealed a tear, I quite luckily found a scrap of vintage fabric that was a close match and appliqued a triangle on top.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Finally, fabric from equilter.com provided the crisp striping for the binding, but since the white was blindingly bright, I made a brew of tea to dye it, giving it the necessary patina of time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
