"Group Guilt"-no, no, make that "Group Quilt" (Dec., 2007)

The ask: Make a block for a quilt to be presented upon the arrival of Debbie and Dan's baby.
Debbie is the much admired and beloved Assoc. Director of the DC office for the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW), a volunteer organization that rocks my world, advocating for women, children, and families. I asked all my peers, the state public affairs chairs in NCJW to participate, but in the end, there were lots of SPA-wannabees, from officers to DC staff, who just had to be involved.
Since the father (-to-be) is a meteorologist, the theme was celestial, and since we didn't know the gender of the baby, I requested yellow to be used, to tie the disparate blocks together. No specific size was demanded, but lots of participants sent in oversized pieces, and let me cut down to the size that would work. I used the excess to make mosaic strip-sets, to fill in and make the blocks all fit together.
Many people found the creative pressure too daunting, and sent $$. A good thing--I was able to turn the quilt top center over to a talented professional quilter, Diana Leslie (dianleslie729@verizon.net), to add the borders, sandwich the layers, quilt it on her longarm sewing machine, and bind the edges, adding a rod pocket for hanging.
The quilt was presented to the happy family at the bris.

I'll add the photos as soon as my new computer, where the pix are stored, gets fixed!! Meanwhile, email me for the Kodakgallery photo album...
